Is my app ready for the App Store?
A plain checklist for the Apple App Store and Google Play. Tick what you already have. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
1. Developer accounts
- Apple Developer Program: $99 a year
You need it to publish on the App Store and to use TestFlight. It renews every year.
Apple Developer Program - Google Play Console: $25 once
A one-time registration fee. Google checks who you are before you can publish.
Play Console: registration
2. App icon
- iOS: 1024 × 1024 px
A square PNG with no transparency and no rounded corners. Apple rounds the corners for you.
Apple: app icons - Google Play: 512 × 512 px
A 32-bit PNG, up to 1 MB. Google Play also needs a 1024 × 500 px feature graphic.
Google Play: graphic assets
3. Screenshots
- iPhone screenshots
1 to 10 screenshots for the 6.9-inch display (for example 1320 × 2868 px) or the 6.5-inch display (1284 × 2778 px). If your app runs on iPad, add iPad screenshots too.
Apple: screenshot sizes - Android screenshots
At least 2 and up to 8 phone screenshots. Each side is between 320 and 3840 px, and the long side is at most twice the short side.
Google Play: graphic assets
4. Links you must have
- A privacy policy URL
Both stores need a public web page that says what data your app collects and why. You also fill in Apple's App Privacy form and Google's Data safety form.
Apple: App Privacy details · Google Play: Data safety - A support URL
Apple needs a web page with real contact details, like an email address, where users can reach you.
Apple: app information
5. If your app has login
- Let people delete their account
If users can create an account, they must be able to delete it inside the app. Google Play also needs a web link where people can ask for deletion.
Apple: account deletion · Google Play: account deletion - Give the reviewer a test account
Apple's reviewers must be able to sign in. Add a working demo login in App Store Connect.
Apple: App Review Guidelines - Offer Sign in with Apple when needed
If you offer login with Google or another outside account, Apple asks for an equal private login option too, like Sign in with Apple (guideline 4.8).
Apple: App Review Guidelines
6. Test on a real phone
- Try it on a real iPhone and a real Android phone
Tap every button. Try it with no internet. A crash during review is a fast rejection.
Apple: TestFlight - New Google Play personal accounts: 12 testers for 14 days
Personal accounts made after November 13, 2023 must run a closed test with at least 12 testers, opted in for 14 days in a row, before they can publish.
Google Play: testing rules
Common reasons apps get rejected
- Crashes, bugs or broken links
Apple guideline 2.1 (App Completeness).

Apple: App Review Guidelines · Google Play: User Data policy - Selling digital things without in-app purchase
Apple guideline 3.1.1 and the Google Play Payments policy.
Apple: App Review Guidelines · Google Play: Payments policy - Data safety answers don't match the app
Google Play checks that your Data safety form matches what the app really does.
Google Play: Data safety - An old Android target version
New apps and updates must target a recent Android API level.
Android: target API level
